FORWARD
I, the passive observer,
the indistinct participant,
the obeyant passenger.
on the journey from American
Dream
to American
Nightmare.
I played the role of keeper of the middle ground.
I did not speak when prompted,
I did not stand with or against.
I did not collaborate.
I did not resist.
I did not offend when expected, nor defend when warranted.
I am unashamed,
I am shameful.
I am all that I am, yet lesser and greater than I should have been.
I witnessed what had happened, what is happening, and yet
blind to what will happen.
I heard calls of peace, calls of war, and let others speak at every instance.
I did, I did not, and through silent abstention gave birth to extremes.
